NONPF is offering members the services of Q-NONPF – Consultation for Quality Nurse Practitioner Education. NONPF faculty consultants are available to provide this multi-tiered quality improvement program. The consultative service offers support to faculty and programs in meeting evaluative criteria for their programs, in developing strong curricula for NP education, and for exploring areas for program development.

The three levels of the Q-NONPF program center on national guidelines, competencies, domains, and criteria for all nurse practitioner educational programs and specialties.

  • Level One – Self-Study: An in-depth self-assessment of program curriculum, materials, and services using NONPF and NONPF-supported materials. Faculty who want to conduct self-evaluation of their program/track would use this level of consultation to self diagnose strengths and weaknesses in their didactic and clinical NP curriculum.
  • Level Two – Program Improvement Consultation (PIC): A paper review of the program conducted by one of the NONPF consultants. The consultant will provide written feedback and recommendations based on the in-depth paper review of the program curriculum and materials.
  • Level Three – Formal Intensive Consultation (FIC): A level of consultation that includes a paper review and on-site participation by the NONPF consultant. This is the most in-depth level of consultation and provides on-site consultation and interaction with faculty in addition to a written review of the program. NONPF and the consultant customize this level to the needs of the program and faculty.

The first cadre of NONPF consultants completed orientation to Q-NONPF and is available to provide consultation. Check out the Q-NONPF Web site for descriptions of the consultants.

NONPF thanks the following members for agreeing to serve as consultants: Kathy Crabtree (Oregon Health Sciences U), Janice Davidson (Fort Hays State U), Susan Denman (Duke U), Kathryn Fiandt (U of Nebraska Med Ctr), Marilyn Frank-Stromborg (Northern IL), Rosemary Goodyear, Ruth Kleinpell (Rush U), Linda Lindeke (U of MN), Marie Marino (SUNY Stony Brook), Margaret McAllister (UMass, Boston), Sharon McGuire (U of San Diego), Karen Plager (Northern AZ U), Heather Sands (UCLA), Debra Sansoucie (SUNY Stony Brook), Carol Savrin (Case Western Reserve U), JoAnne Saxe (UCSF), Arlene Sperhac (Rush), Evelyn Stiner (Alcorn State), and Frances Strodtbeck (Baylor U).

The development of Q-NONPF reflects a widespread commitment by NONPF and its members to providing services that promote quality nurse practitioner education. Charlene ("Chuckie") Hanson, EdD, RN, CS, FNP, FAAN, has provided leadership of two different task forces charged with conceptualizing and implementing the program and now heads the Q-NONPF Quality Advisory Committee. Chuckie has worked closely with the NONPF Board of Directors over the past several years to develop and implement a program that would advance NONPF's missions and provide a valuable service to members.

The first task force in this initiative studied program needs and developed a multi-tiered model for consultation. This task force included the following members: Janet Allan, Chris Boodley, Patricia Burns, Chuckie Hanson, Pamela Hellings, Marilyn Hravnak, Joyce Pulcini, Louise Rauckhorst, and JoEllen Wilbur.

To get the program in place, NONPF expanded the first task force. Several subcommittees of this larger task force worked on consultant selection and orientation, marketing, materials development, policies and MOUs, and further program development. The individuals who contributed to this work include the following: Janet Allan, Elaine Amella, Toni Barnett, Michelle Beauchesne, Chris Boodley, Patricia Burns, Mary Hope Gibson, Margaret Clark Graham, Thomasine Guberski, Chuckie Hanson, MJ Henderson, Donna Hodnicki, Patricia Jackson, Ann Lewis, Cynthia Logsdon, Ruth Kleinpell, Kathy Magdic, Donna Nativio, Ann O'Sullivan, Joyce Pulcini, Louise Rauckhorst, Connie Uphold, and JoEllen Wilbur.

NONPF thanks the many members who have worked on this initiative and who continue to devote time to this valuable program service.
