Since mid-2001, NONPF has
been engaging in the study of the nursing practice doctorate. Early work
in the organization centered on identifying the key issues in health
care and society driving a perceived need for the reshaping of this
educational paradigm. Recent work has included
development by NONPF leadership and membership task forces of
statements, articles, and other documents to provide guidance to NP
educators. In December 2003, NONPF
co-hosted a National Forum on
the Practice Doctorate in Nursing to facilitate
national dialogue. In 2005, NONPF convened a multi-organizational
National Panel for the NP practice doctorate competencies consensus
process. NONPF created this
Web-based resource center to promote the ongoing exchange of information about this
topic and to facilitate dialogue broadly among NONPF members,
clinicians, educators, and the general public.
