· NONPF Board recognized the practice doctorate resurgence, particularly through discussions led by the nursing programs at Columbia University (Council for the Advancement of Primary Health Care), University of Kentucky, and the University of Tennessee at Memphis
· Board initiated discussions in NONPF to understand the practice doctorate and its ramifications for NONPF and our members.
· Board identified future potential for having parallel credentials for all practice professionals.
2001
· NONPF included a report on the work of the Columbia University Council and practice doctorate during the Current Issues Forum held at the April annual meeting.
· NONPF Practice Doctorate Task Force (initially called Clinical Doctorate) formed in the summer.
· The PDTF (L. Marion, Chair) began its study and discussions in the fall.
2002
· The NONPF Annual Meeting in April featured a panel discussion that highlighted different models of the practice doctorate and addressed key issues.
· The NONPF Board voted in April to support general concepts of clinical doctoral education.
· In June, NONPF initiated collaboration with the AACN’s clinical doctorate task force.
· NONPF Board approved a strategic initiative on the practice doctorate in July.
· PDTF Chair attended the July Columbia U Council invitational DrNP conference.
· NONPF sponsored a fall Teleweb – “The Clinical Doctorate in Nursing: Future or Fringe?” attended by NP faculty throughout the nation, NONPF President (Diane Viens) host.
· NONPF established a Web-based resource center on the practice doctorate.
2003
· PDTF Chair attended Columbia U Council meetings.
· The PDTF reported to the membership on current activities in April.
· NONPF solicited feedback from the membership and meeting attendees to help give shape to the focus of the practice doctorate.
· The PDTF published in Medscape an overview article which was in the Top Ten among most unique readers for the year.
· In June, the NONPF Board approved PDTF recommendations on the practice doctorate.

· NONPF president presented about the practice doctorate at the ACNP Summit in February.
· Latest Medscape article on curriculum models published in March by NONPF PDTF members.
